Roger’s career includes having been a partner with Baring Private Equity Partners, where he ran the Baring Energy Ventures Fund, made and managed investments for the Baring European Private Equity Fund and helped set up the Baring English Growth Fund

As Business Development Director at Midlands Electricity plc, Roger originated, created and implemented the first gas supply company in the UK to be owned by an electricity distributor. He also structured and managed Midlands’ investments in three venture funds. Roger led Midlands’ interests in a number of proposed electricity privatisations in central Europe.

As Director of Strategic Planning at Plessey he originated and worked on three successful defence electronics acquisitions in North America, valued at over $500m. He also had a leading role in writing the defence document in response to the hostile takeover of the company by Siemens and GEC.

More recently, Roger was Commercial Director at ITI Energy , a Scottish Government initiative to develop energy technologies, where he assessed and commercialised new energy technologies both renewable and conventional including drilling, pipeline, H2 storage, Li ion, algae, battery management, grid interface, offshore wind, and EV.

Roger’s career has also included a commercial role at NESTA, a government endowment to promote innovation in science technology and the arts, where he managed the foundation’s early stage investments.

Roger’s career started at Schlumberger, where he worked in the Middle East and Africa. He was also director of a Canadian utility network management software company.

Roger has a BSc (Hons) Physics from Birmingham University, an MSc from UCL, an MBA from IMI Geneva (now IMD) and a first class honours BA in Humanities from the Open University.
